How can you have a non-theistic conception of divinity, that has any meaningful relevance to the lives of ordinary, not particularly academic people? When the chips are down very few of us will turn to the teachings of Spinoza but we might well cry out to a spiritual being greater than ourselves and seek for some sort of meaning to this crazy world in which we live through meditation upon the life of Jesus.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5144051388547159240.post-29228808440540402372008-10-02T22:38:00.000+01:002008-10-02T22:38:00.000+01:00Many Christians have moved beyond the superman God...Many Christians have moved beyond the superman God, but still recognise personal attributes - love, guidance to name just two...

You talk about God as Nature, but what in layman's terms does this actually mean?

And I wonder (with utmost respect) whether you have really given up on God in all but name?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5144051388547159240.post-24260596144328317862008-10-01T19:20:00.000+01:002008-10-01T19:20:00.000+01:00If by God one means something akin to Spinoza's De...If by God one means something akin to Spinoza's Deus sive Natura (God-or-Nature) then, yes. (This is a non-theistic conception of divinity.) If by God one means a personal God (as in traditional forms of Christianity) then, no, probably not - at least not as far as I can see. Though, as I say this, I naturally acknowledge there are many who can see how there is both such a personal God and how and where that God has a place. However, I confess that I simply cannot any longer.Andrew James Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02693417061963197121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5144051388547159240.post-26867057615124039902008-10-01T18:09:00.000+01:002008-10-01T18:09:00.000+01:00Any place for God?Any place for God?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
