Raid. Kills Bugs Dead.

A long-standing claim is that Lew Welch (my favourite beat poet) wrote the well known advertising slogan "Raid. Kills Bugs Dead." Who knows, but in an idle moment of surfing I found that someone had posted one of the early adverts TV advert. So, for no reason other than it offers an eccentric beat poetry footnote, here it is. Enjoy - if enjoy is the right word!

I'll try again to get last Sunday's address up tomorrow while I write this coming Sunday's one . . .

I remember doing an assignment for school back in the mid 90's and this was my ad campaign.
Every kid somewhere in the 90s in high school did this as an advertising assignment. 🙄
I did kills. Bugs. Dead.
Queanbeyan high school. Early 90s. Wish they'd acknowledged and passed on the generated ad revenue.

Free ad campaigns by kids through schools profiteered by commercial use 👏

Good work
Dear Jasemann, thanks for the interesting comment. Your experience is a good reminder that in the neoliberal age, all people, even kids at school, are seen as a mere cogs in the hyper-capitalist machine. The pièce de résistance in your example is that the product being promoted was almost certainly killing more than bugs dead. I'm certain Lew Welch (if he did write the slogan) would be horrified.

All the best,

Andrew
