Some photos of Swinna Ness, Unst, Shetland
This afternoon four of us went for a walk from Baltasound along the craggy coastline of Swinna Ness in Unst, Shetland. During the late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Baltasound rivalled Lerwick as the major British herring port and in the midst of the fishing season the population of 500 grew to some 10,000 all of whom supported about 600 boats. Today it saw only four of us walking, a single fishing boat and a solitary small sailing boat heading out to sea . . .. Here are a few photos from the walk.
