Wednesday Photo: The Summer Game—Village Cricket in Fen Ditton

During my summer leave in August 2021, my wife, Susanna, and I took a gentle stroll out of Cambridge along the River Cam to Fen Ditton. We spent a very pleasant hour or so on a bench in the little cemetery there eating our sandwiches and drinking tea whilst this game of cricket pleasantly unfolded across the adjacent playing field. The greatest pleasures of life are nearly always this simple . . .
