Happy Baba Marta (Grandma March) Day!

The Martenitsa (мартеница) hung up outside our house this morning

Susanna, my wife, spent the first six years of her life in Bulgaria and, as some of you may know, there is in that country a tradition of wearing, or hanging up on a tree, a martenitsa  on March 1st, Baba Marta (Grandma March) Day. Although, we don’t have any close Bulgarian connections today, Susanna and I still often mark the day—as we did this morning.
